The Vallorbe Caves, just 6 kilometres from the French border, are the largest stalactite caves in Switzerland and among the most beautiful in Europe. The cave system formed by the River Orbe impresses with stalactites, stalagmites and a spectacular light and sound show in the 30 metre high ‘cathedral’. A fascinating underground nature experience.
To round off the tour, a light lunch awaits us in a very special place: the majestic ‘Cathedral of the Cave’. Surrounded by the sparkling magic of the ‘Treasures of the Fairies’ - a fascinating collection of minerals with 250 glittering exhibits from all over the world - we enjoy selected local specialities in an atmosphere full of magic and wonder.
Marie-Prune and Nathalie offer you an original experience in their workshop on the shores of Lac de Joux. The workshop has a modelling, turning and enamelling room as well as a shop area. The secrets of ceramics from China, Korea and Japan flow into the workshop.
Paul Gauguin's life, characterised by deprivation and decay, had a lasting influence on the perception of his art. Alberto Venzago's journeys are not just explorations, but also the expression of a deep obsession. In the winter of 2024, Venzago followed in Gauguin's footsteps and repeated his journey from 1901 to capture the essence of Gauguin's world and the people who are still part of his legacy today.
The Alpeor brand was founded in 2004 by Alexandre Flueckiger. His aim was to combine the power of Alpine flora with modern biotechnology to develop highly effective anti-ageing skincare products that stand for efficacy, excellence and innovation. You can create your own product using local active ingredients such as plant and essential oils and experience Alpeor's particularly effective skincare philosophy first hand.
At 2,200 hectares, the Risoud forest is the largest single forest in Europe and stretches for 15 kilometres along the Vallée de Joux to the French border. It is considered a peaceful oasis in both summer and winter and is the source of numerous myths and legends.
The pianist and composer Gabriel Emanuel Arnold transforms nature into a concert hall with his ‘GrandPiano on tour’ project. In the open air, he brings classical music to the people in an impressive way - virtuosic, moving and always unique. His programme combines masterpieces, his own compositions and improvisations to create an unforgettable musical experience.
Three-Michelin-starred chef Emmanuel Renaut creates dishes inspired by nature, drawing inspiration from the nearby Risoud Forest, which provides many of the ingredients. His cuisine combines local products such as meat, fish, cheese and vegetables from his own garden with fine delicacies and surprising harmony. The origin of the ingredients plays a central role.
The Horloger bar combines local watchmaking tradition with stylish sophistication and offers a convivial atmosphere. Guests can discover signature cocktails made with ingredients from the Risoud forest or while away the evening until the early hours of the morning in elegant lounges with fine cigars and drinks.
L’Espace Horloger de la Vallée de Joux is a modern, interactive museum in Le Sentier that brings the art of watchmaking to life for beginners and connoisseurs alike. It presents historical masterpieces, virtual time travel experiences and all the craftsmanship involved in watchmaking. A special exhibition on regional watchmaking and the Gidéon collection on the history of timekeeping round off the visit.
The hotel is a leader in ecological terms, both with respect to the development of the building, which was designed to limit the environmental impact during its construction and entire life cycle, and its daily operations, which are guided by a spirit of continuous improvement.
